Horse Riding Holidays in Menorca: A Unique Island Experience
Even if you have only been to Menorca for a long weekend, you will still have little doubt that it would be hard to find a more ideal location for a riding holiday.
The countryside is beautiful and as you go through it you can almost feel the undisturbed life from centuries ago and its charming reluctance to catch up with the present.
Why Visit Menorca? Culture, Beaches and Relaxed Lifestyle
There are also two interesting but different cities which comfortably combine a fascinating sense of history alongside the full range of contemporary delights: shops, restaurants, coffee shops and all the rest.
The island is gently mountainous in places, there are a huge number of beaches to die for, a selection of restaurants of varied excellence to suit even the most exotic tastes, a surprisingly wonderful cricket ground and much else in between including, which is perhaps most important of all, a peaceful, uncompetitive and friendly atmosphere, for Menorca works at its own relaxed pace – which is why we all love it so much.

Mahon and Ciutadella: Exploring Menorca’s Historic Cities
Although the locals feel that the two cities, Mahon and Ciutadella, are insuperably far apart, the journey between the two takes no more than an hour.
Ciutadella, the older of the two, is perched on the north coast. It was the original capital of the island until the British decided to move it to Mahon when they ruled the island for a large part of the eighteenth century.
Mahon, where mayonnaise comes from, is sprawled down one side of its amazing harbour, one of the biggest natural harbours in the world. It was important in the old days as an unassailable naval base for whichever country was in charge of the eastern half of the Mediterranean. The impressive Georgian architecture in the centre of Mahon is the principal evidence of the years of British rule and there is also an opera house said to be the oldest theatre in Spain.

This is the moment to introduce Tanya Chianale with her love of horses. She has recently moved into equine assisted therapy and is now bringing her new world to Menorca. Tanya, who has been working with a special equine team in Richmond Park in London, loves the island and has been visiting regularly for some years. She is now setting up her own Equestry which will open Menorca to wonderful equine holidays, adventures and discoveries.

A Lifelong Passion for Horses and Riding in Menorca
Tanya has had a love affair with horses since she was eight and began to ride in Tanzania where her family were based at the time. She began riding in Menorca five years ago and at once realised that this would be a wonderful venue in which to expand her love and enjoyment of equine therapy and to share it with others.
She soon met Sita Moll, who runs a Menorcan-based equine business and is herself an experienced horsewoman. She is the driving force behind Mon Etologia Equestre with its philosophy based on understanding horses through their natural language, logic and behaviour rather than the traditional force-based methods.
Tanya’s Equestry is the ideal place to enable people to enjoy their love for horses at the same time as experiencing the delights of this unique island.
I fell under Menorca’s spell some twenty years ago. I am not a beach lover myself, but the beaches on the island are as good as it gets without being polished and manicured and ultra expensive as they are in, say, the South of France or other such places.
Discover Menorca: Beaches, Heritage and Hidden Gems
There is so much to explore there and every time I go back I always seem to discover something new and exciting. It is not a party island and is protected and preserved as you would hope and expect a Heritage island to be.
The amazing harbour in Mahon, with its jewel, the Isla del Rey, with its beautifully restored military hospital, originally built by the British in the eighteenth century is, for me, the main attraction of all.
It is impossible to list here all the many delights of the island. You will need to go and make your own discoveries, on horseback from Tanya’s wonderful Equestry. It really is a no-brainer!
